this might be the source of the above proverbs
In the entire book of Job you don't find his family and friends. Job laments, “My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me. (Job 19:12) When he went through his tragedies, all of his close friends and relatives abandoned him, but when G-d returned his wealth it says: then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house (Job 42:11)…..Suddenly, they all came out of the woodworks.

יתכן שזה המקור לפתגמים למעלה

Yiddish Expressions 1.2

Master the Yiddish language with
 "Yiddish In 10 Lessons"

When someone offers you a worthless solution, something ineffective, when pigs fly, useless, the expression is
כשמישהו נותן לך עצה או פתרון שלא יעבוד, משהו לא מציאותי, בחלום הלילה הביטוי ביידיש הוא

עס וועט העלפן ווי אַ טויטן בּאַנקעס

es vet helfn vi a toytn ban'kes

it will help like a cupping glass to a corpse

זה יעזור כמו כוסות רוח למת

Yiddish is rich with expressions. In fact, sometimes the same phrase can be said in a number of different ways. I try to bring the unique ones, where it is is not obvious from the literal translation what the expression means.

*Balaam and Balak

The main story of Balaam occurs during the sojourn of the Israelites inthe plains of Midian, east of the Jordan River, at the close of forty years of wandering, shortly before the death ofMoses, and the crossing of the Jordan. The Israelites have already defeated two kings on this side of the Jordan: Sihon, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan. Balak, king of Moab (Numbers 22:2), consequently becomes alarmed, and sends elders of Midian and his messengers (Numbers 22:4–5), to Balaam, son of Beor, to induce him to come and curse Israel. Balaam's location, Pethor, is simply given as "which is by the river of the land of the children of his people" in the masoretic text.
Balaam sends back word that he can only do what The Almighty commands, and G-d has, via a nocturnal dream, told him not to go. Moab consequently sends higher-ranking priests and offers Balaam honours; Balaam, in his coveteousness, continues to press G-d, and G-d finallygives him over to his greed and permits him to go but with instructions to say only what he commands. Balaam thus, without being asked again, sets out in the morning with the princes of Moab and G-d becomes angry that he went, and an angel (Numbers 22:22) is sent to prevent him. At first the angel is seen only by the donkey Balaam is riding, which tries to avoid the otherwise invisible angel. After Balaam starts punishing the donkey for refusing to move, it is miraculously given the power to speak to Balaam (Numbers 22:28), and it complains about Balaam's treatment. At this point, Balaam is allowed to see the angel, who informs him that the donkey is the only reason the angel did not kill Balaam. Balaam immediately repents, but is told to go on.

Yiddish Expression 1.1

When someone asks for something that you have no intentions of giving or doing you would say

כשמישהו מבקש ממך משהו שאתה לא חולם לתת או לעשות, אתה אומר לו

"יאָ, מאָרגן נאָכן קוגל"

yo, morgn nokhn kugl

yes, tomorrow after the kugel
(Kugel is a baked pudding or casserole, similar to a pie, most commonly made from egg noodles (Lokshen kugel) or potato. It is a traditional Ashkenazi Jewish dish, often served on Shabbos and Yom Tov)

כן, מחר אחרי הקוגל

אַלע תּאוות פון דער וועלט זענען ווי שטראַלן פון דער זון, וואָס קוקן אויס ווי זײַלן בּיז מ'טאַפּט עס אָן מיט די הענט און עס האָט נישט קײַן ממשות

All of the desires of the world are like rays of sunlight.
They look like pillars but when you try to touch them with your hand you find there is nothing in your grasp

translated to Hebrew
כל התאוות של העולם דומים לקרני אור הנכנסים לבית מן השמש שהם נדמים כעמודים מחמת הזריחה של החמה. וכשמנסים לגעת בעמודי האור האלה לא נשאר בתוך היד כלום, אין בו ממשות
